The City of Salem’s new 2 MGD Surface Water Treatment Plant, using Ultra Filtration Membrane Technology from GE Power and Water went into service on April 2, 2012. G.P.M. Associates Inc. (“GAI”) was the design engineer for this new plant which should assure compliance with all regulatory requirements for the foreseeable future. GAI designed the plant to be expandable to 3 MGD.
This plant uses enhanced coagulation prior to the membranes and UV disinfection to provide significant Organic removal and virus/giardia inactivation prior to the addition of chlorine. GAI provided inspection services during construction and start-up assistance.
This new treatment plant will provide reliable high quality water supply for the City and the region.
